      Dear Parents,

Thank you to those parents who have been helping the Youngers with their work in the cafeteria during STAR testing.  Today through Thursday the Olders will be doing the Math sections.  With Open House quickly approaching and the end of the school year on the horizon, there are plenty of opportunities for you to help out in the department. Things like Memory Books, bulletin boards, student research reports, and center preparation head the list.

There will be no homework this week as we wish to encourage you to devote some special time to those Rain Forest 3-D Word Wall projects.  These can be turned in anytime!  Some have already been shared and are proudly displayed in the rooms.  Come on in and take a look, or ask a teacher to show you photographs from previous years if you need some ideas.  Remember, this is a family project that we hope will build terrific learning and memories.  Please don’t hesitate to ask us if you need some help getting started.

The Youngers have a spinner game in their Tuesday Folders, which they learned in Math Switch.  They are getting really good at their doubles facts and are working on neighbor facts.  Olders have been regrouping with both addition and subtraction.  We are reinforcing Fact Families with both groups.  Make math fun at home!  Play a game with dice or money, let your child help measure when you cook or cut lumber, count the steps you take together - by 2‘s, 5‘s, or 10‘s, play store with their toys, be creative and enjoy!

Take care,
Jess,    Cathie,   and Laura

Dear Parents,

We had an absolutely FABULOUS whole-school Mini-Courses Day last Friday!   We all thoroughly enjoyed all of the wonderful projects and activities!   Thank you so much to ALL of you who taught a Mini-Course or offered your participation to make the day such a success!

Believe it or not, the 3-D Word Wall posters have already started to trickle in!   This project should NOT be intimidating!   For a little inspiration, please come in and see the posters as they go up, or ask to see photos of 3-D Word Wall projects from years past.   We would love to help out in any way we can.   The due date, May 9, is the Friday before Open House, which is scheduled for Thursday, May 15.   It is quite a spectacular display to have all those 3-D projects up for that special night!

There is math homework but NO language homework this week for both Youngers and Olders.   The 3-D Word Wall project is homework for the next 2 ½ weeks.

Ready, Set, Go!   State testing (STAR) begins TOMORROW for the Olders!   It is important that your Older gets a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast each morning during the testing period.   Our tests are scheduled Wednesday, Thursday, Friday of this week and Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday of next week.   The testing period is roughly from 9:00 until 10:30 AM each day.

During the testing periods, the Youngers will be busy in the cafeteria with rain forest and other curricular activities designed especially for them.   Because the teachers must administer the tests in the classroom, the Youngers are supervised by a group of parents, with occasional visits from Mrs. Manley.   The more parents we have during the testing periods, the easier it is for everyone.   Please let us know if you can help out!   Four or more parents per day is not too many!!

Love,

Laura, Cathie, and Jess
