I’m very excited about joining the Fremont Open Plan teaching staff. I’ve enjoyed spending the past 6 years teaching kindergarten for Modesto City Schools and look forward to partnering with Sarah and the entire community here at Fremont School. I received my teaching credential through California State University, Stanislaus and have been teaching with Modesto City Schools for 14 years.
My husband, Randy, and I have been part of the Open Plan community since the year 2000. We have built many lasting relationships over the years here at Fremont School. Mitchell, my older son, is now 13 and has moved on to Roosevelt Junior High School where he has pursued his interests in music and sports. My younger son, Maxwell will be starting in the upper department this year. Maxwell is looking forward to all the “cool” experiences he will be having in the upper department the next couple of years. Spending time with my family is very important to me. We enjoy camping with family and friends. One of our favorite destinations is Yosemite, but we also enjoy the coast. We like to sing around the campfire and at home…often creating our own silly lyrics. We also enjoy local theater, music, biking, board games, and movies.

I feel extremely honored to be part of the Open Plan family. I have been a teacher with Modesto City Schools for 11 years; the majority of it being at Bret Harte Elementary. During my time at Bret Harte, I built fantastic relationships with the staff and students. Being a part of the Bret Harte community is where I found my many passions of teaching. I spent the first 6 years as a teacher teaching grades 1st thru 3rd. I then accepted a special teacher assignment as a Literacy Coach at Bret Harte. I spent the next 4 years working with a great teaching partner coaching teachers on our adopted curriculum. Through that experience,my love to teach reading and its different components grew into a passion that I hope to share with the many students that I encounter. I also had the honor of being a peer mediator teacher with our older students at Bret Harte. Teaching the students to be positive role models amongst their peers and within their community as peace builders was a very rewarding part of my experience. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies from the University of Sacramento and my Multiple Subject Credential from the University of Stanislaus.
I married my high school sweetheart Mark in 2003. We have two beautiful children that are the highlights of our lives. I love watching our 6 year old daughter and 4 year old son grow daily into their own personalities. Our daughter also joined the Fremont Open Plan family this year with me, and my son will join next year. I love being a part of my children’s education and look forward to seeing them continue to grow and learn. Our family enjoys doing many activities together. We recently bought our first travel trailer and have thoroughly enjoyed camping and playing in the water. We love taking day trips to various places, including Monterey, Murphy’s and small historical towns. I look forward to being a part of each of my students’ lives. My passion for teaching and love for children make being a teacher one of the most rewarding parts of my life. I look forward to many great experiences as a member of Fremont Open Plan.

I am very excited to be a part of the Open Plan teaching staff. I have worked for Modesto City Schools for 6 years. I was a Latchkey teacher at Everett for 5 years and completed my student teaching at Everett in their kindergarten program. During 2006-2007 school year I taught first grade in Turlock. Last year I returned to Modesto City Schools to teach a new preschool program which co-enrolled state preschool students and deaf and hard of hearing students. It was very exciting watching all of the students eager to learn sign language and share their new language with their families.
My husband is my high school sweetheart and we have two fun, energetic children. My daughter Malia is almost 5 and my son is 1 1/2 years old. I love to read and enjoy sharing my love of reading with my children. We love to travel and some of our favorite destinations are Lake Tahoe, Mendocino and Disneyland. I look forward to getting to know all of my students and their families over the next year.
