PAG Minutes and Secretary Notes Fremont Open Plan Parent Advisory Group Meeting April 15, 2008- approved May 20 1. Meeting called to order- 6:38 by Matt Roy, PAG Chairperson.
a. Principal –Jane Manley- School is getting ready for testing. Orchestra performance was phenomenal. Chorus will perform in May. Kim has accepted another position for Kindergarten next year, so we will have two positions for next year. Interviews will be in June. If you are interested in being on the committee to hire, see Jane. b. Head Teacher- Laura McClenaghan-May is so packed, please read Tuesday notes carefully. We still have to figure out transition tour dates. c. Kindergarten- Laura McClenaghan- Olga released 21 butterflies. Scenic Nursery field trip was a success. They are concluding insect unit and voting on a new theme. d. Primary department- Cathie Peck- We took a field trip to the zoo with 44 parents. Saw a lot of rain forest animals. Primary department is fully immersed in Rain Forest right now and getting ready for testing. e. Middle department- Laura McClenaghan- Huge thank you to parents for Pioneer Day. f. Upper Department- Jeanne Pollard- The past week has been difficult. Todd’s father passed away. Dorene’s daughter is in the hospital. Another family lost a grandparent. Kid’s reported the end of the year songs are making them sad because they will be leaving soon. Jeanne has a great student teacher in her room.
a. Tour Committee- Jeanne Pollard- we have a great committee this year. They have updated the handbook. Suggested changes for by-laws must go through PAG. Jeanne explained the process to change by-laws and asked us to look through the packet for vote at next PAG.
a. School Play- Denise Taylor- Amazing turnout from kids and parents. There are a minimum of 7 scripts.
a. Lisa Schut- A budget meeting is scheduled for April 29 @ 3:00 to go over this year’s budget and any proposed changes. b. Election Committee- Matt Roy- Ballots went out today.
a. Andrew Bowman asked- With the hiring of 2 new teachers, what plans are there for training or transitioning? Jane Manley responded- She has given this a lot of thought. Handbooks will go out immediately and new teachers are encouraged to work over the summer. Also, after initial screening, potential teachers are asked to design and teach a lesson. Laura McClenaghan included that Dorene and others are also looking at the recommended book list in handbook Open Plan teachers always work through the summer. If a teacher doesn’t want to, it says a lot about their dedication. Lisa Schut suggested that PAG buy some of the recommended books to be available to the parents and teachers in the library.

March 18, 2008- approved April 15, 2008
1. Meeting called to order- 6:37 by Matt Roy, PAG Chairperson.
2. Approval of PAG February minutes- Jorge Mastache moved to approve, Denise Taylor seconded. 3. Staff Reports
a. Principal –Jane Manley- We had a lockdown yesterday due to police chase from a carjacking. Everyone was safe and secure. Kim had her baby (Audrey Isabella) March 15th. District approved getting a 2nd grade kindergarten next year. Details will be settled. We all need to stay focused on the learning that is going on now.
b. Head Teacher- Laura McClenaghan-Getting ready for 4th genre day on Thursday. Spring break is coming. May is packed with field trips, BBQ, Open House, spring play, and testing. We are all excited for Kim and things are going well in Kinder.
c. Kindergarten- Olga- currently raising butterflies. Will release on April 2nd. A rep. from Great Valley Museum helped kids identify, compare/contrast them. An insect expert is coming in April.
d. Primary department- Finishing weather and moving toward rain forest. We want kids to feel they can make a difference.
e. Middle department- Pioneer days- April 4th. Kids are currently making sun bonnets. They have been focused on this for the last month.
f. Upper Department- Odessey of the mind teams were awesome. Mini courses and STAR testing are in April. Jeanne has had a student teacher in her room.
4. Treasurer- Lisa Schut reported this month’s activities are highlighted in yellow on the report. Classroom stipends went out. Field trips are paid for. Revenue/reimbursement/fundraising came in at bottom. Revenue is highlighted. Highlighted color will match if there is a corresponding balance in revenue/expenditures for year. This is not the total in the account. Bottom of report has the department percentage paid. 5. Other committees
a. Social Committee- End of Year picnic at Downey Park May 30th. School wide Play Day is June 3rd. Mini Courses April 18th- Mosaic Clay pots and rubber band balls are booked.
b. Handbook Committee- Jeanne Pollard reported the committee has a lot of people working on it. If you know of any books to add to the list of recommended reading, please let her know.
6. Old Business
a. Odyssey of the Mind went well. It was good to see how relationships built up and the progression from little to older kids. Laura judged for problem 1 and is going to judge at state in Brentwood (near Dublin).
b. School Play- Denise is meeting tomorrow morning to discuss which plays to go with.
7. New Business- Nominations for executive committee are due today. There will be an Open Forum at April’s PAG. 8. Other items too late for agenda- Lisa shared that Latchkey wants to go on a field trip. They have been recycling cans to pay for this but have not raised enough. They are requesting $75 from PTA and $75 from PAG. Vote was taken. 19 agreed and 0 opposed. 9. Meeting adjourned 7:07pm

February 19, 2008- approved March 18, 2008
1. Meeting called to order- 6:31 by Matt Roy, PAG Chairperson.
2. Approval of PAG January minutes- Denise Taylor moved to approve, Michele Morton seconded. 3. Staff Reports
a. Principal – Jeanne Pollard reported for Jane Manley- Modesto peace life centers writing contest- Peace is an integral part of Open Plan- Five Open Plan children were selected as finalists. Fremont school got honorable mention for California Distinguished school award.
b. Head Teacher- Jeanne Pollard shared for Laura McClenaghan- Kim left for maternity leave. Olga is here to take her class.
c. Kindergarten- Olga shared today is her official starting day. She is looking forward to building a loving environment and she is thankful for the parent involvement.
d. Primary department- Jess Taylor shared they are studying weather and are getting ready for their Rainforest unit. Cathie Peck reported they celebrated the 100th day of school friendship day.
e. Middle department- Levi Hanzel-Sello said they are planning simulated pioneer day. They are studying people of frontier. In math they are studying fractions and decimals.
f. Upper Department- Todd Brownell stated they got their bulletin board built by Abe Green. Tomorrow the Upper Department is going to Sacramento on Amtrack to the Railroad Museum. Jeanne Pollard stated mini-courses are April 18. We invite you anyone to come and teach or observe a course. Two new student council officers have been elected.
4. Treasurer- Lisa Schut reported an article in the Link shows where we are fund drive wise- technically 60% complete. 2 different letters have been sent. Discussion occurred about what we can do to increase this…what will this mean for the future…what has past trends been??? Ideas of raffle drawing for those paid? We paid $540 for Upper Dept. train trip. Calendars brought in $1326 minus cost of $695.95 gives us $630 earned. Another t-shirt sell is coming soon. Paid $107 for updated public relations fliers. 5. Other committees
a. Social Committee- Matt Roy shared End-of Year Picnic is Friday May 30th at Downey Park. Park is reserved and paid for .We will try to get El Rosal again.
6. Old Business- Lisa Stated the letter to district regarding Kindergarten at a 15:1 ratio has been completed, signed and given to Jane Manley. A discussion of possible steps that could be taken if we are turned down took place as well as concerns of how budget cuts might affect newly hired employees. 7. New Business- School Play is May 22. Jess is guiding/working on play. Jack Souza is chair of committee for play. Does anybody know of someone who can help in this area? 8. Other items too late for agenda- Matt Roy stated next field trip for Middle Department is scheduled for May 28. Deena Mcgrath shared Odyssey of the Mind competition is March 1st. We need bottle caps, cardboard, plastic bottles, cans- Send to Levi’s or Todd’s rooms. 9. Meeting adjourned 7:16pm
